PADI IDC on Malapascua, December 2014

This was the last PADI IDC of 2014 and what a successful year it has been for professional training at TSD!

Our candidates were a varied bunch from Poland, England, Finland  and Zimbabwe.

Kris and Markus came to us just for the IDC.  Mitch completed his Divemaster course with us earlier this year, and “loved TSD so much” he wanted to come back to do his IDC :) And Brittany was also a familiar face around TSD – she had been with us for 4 months already, initially arriving as a newly certified Open Water Diver!  What a long way she has come!

As usual we started with the Prep for the IDC, and everybody was really well prepared. We went into the water for first time for a skill circuit and again they excelled – all the training they had had in their DM courses showed.

Theory was also perfected during the Prep Course, and so then it was on to the IDC proper and it was time for the first Confined Water Presentations. Conditions were not ideal, which made it a little more challenging, but nevertheless, everyone passed easily and they all showed good control.

Then we started the lectures and Knowledge Development Presentation. They seemed to find it a bit strange to talk to in front of the class, but that is perfectly normal, and after a while it started to feel more natural, and again they got great scores.

So finally it was out to Open Water for more presentations and of course some Rescue skills practice. Setting up the station in the right place and getting used to controlling groups is always a bit different than in the pool but after some counseling they were all on fine. We even had time for a bit of a fun dive after.

It’s can be really good fun teaching EFR Instructor. Practicing CPR on Little Anne and the baby is always a bit weird but Mitch quickly found a way to even make it look easy and fun doing his chest compressions in time to the beat of “Stayin’ Alive” :)

Finally the moment of truth had arrived, IE time!

They were all a bit nervous, but they were well prepared and as they had been through everything over and over, there was nothing new in the Instructor Exam.

By the end of Day Two everybody had passed easily and all the smiles were back! The whole IDC was a lot of fun, there was a bit of stress once in a while, but most importantly it was another successful PADI IDC at Thresher Shark Divers!

Congratulations everyone!

As always, afterwards, our candidates got to take some Specialty Instructor Ratings, including the ever-popular Nitrox Instructor. We are already looking forward to the next IDC at Thresher Shark Divers starting on 22nd of January 2015, so hope to see you there!
